Good Advertisement

In businesses, advertising can be either a good or a bad tool. In recent years advertisements have been used to boost the consumption of goods and influence purchase decisions. A bad advertisement can also be referred to as manipulative advertisement.  According to Phillips, manipulative or deceptive advertisement is “an advertising that tried to favorably alter consumers’ perceptions of the advertised product by appeals to factors other than the product’s physical attributes and functional performance” (Phillips 79). Advertising socializes people to adopt consumerist values, which is why manipulative and deceptive advertising is morally objectionable. Consequently, people are led into material abundance, which then encourages salespeople to sell more by making consumers want their products by making them work harder for money to acquire them. However, advertising has a good side as well. To succeed, and grow a company, advertising is considered crucial.

Firstly, the advertisement offers organizations and businesses an effective to sell their products. Customer interest in a business's products and services is important. Businesses must promote their services through advertisement in such a way that people learn about their products and services to increase sales (Deighton et al. 28-43). Taking advantage of advertising is one of the most effective ways to showcase a business's services to the public. In order to make advertising more appealing and captivating for target consumers, different methods are employed. A business can use advertising techniques such as social media, broadcast advertisements among others to highlight the unique selling points of its products and services.

Secondly, advertising provides people with social benefits. This powerful strategy is not just employed by commercial companies; social workers are also able to use advertisements to highlight social issues and promote freedom of speech in countries with a lot of restrictions on freedom of speech. Individuals are influenced by several types of social changes as a result of the freedom of advertising-supported content, and speech.

Thirdly, advertising also plays a crucial role in educating people and increasing awareness. Several advertisements are targeted specifically at the public's welfare. Ads are targeted to the public with an aim of spreading gender equality messages, stopping gender identification before birth, stopping addictions and promoting healthy lifestyles, offering aid to people in times of calamity, uniting people in terror situations, and guarding them against any bank fraud and phishing activities (Deighton et al. 28-43). It is in the best interest of the public to remain safe and protected by these advertisements. Additionally, we have several companies on the market that typically rely on advertisement to increase awareness of the products and services they sell. As such, there is a need to raise awareness of the products and services an organization offers to the public since keeping track of every offer from every company before making a purchase is time-consuming. A company's advertising is a good way to let customers know about the best deals, discounts, and benefits the company offers. By comparing and choosing the best store to buy goods and services, the public can find the right store.

Through advertising, businesses become aware of each other, and companies become more competitive to provide the highest quality services and products. This offers an economic advantage to the organizations. It is the customers who would benefit the most from this competition since the companies will be offering the best deals. In this way, advertising promotes healthy competition among companies that make a concerted effort to up the quality of their product.  Thus, with high-quality products provided by businesses, customers become loyal. Furthermore, advertising can motivate companies to set their sights on competition and offer new products, according to the International Advertising Association. Consumers will be more likely to buy when these products meet their needs and want (Mathew et al. 725-7480. Consequently, the economy benefits. Marketing can also lead to more jobs being created. The advertising of products and services causes a surge in demand for those products and services, requiring more manufacturers, suppliers, shippers, testers, and people to manufacture, supply, ship, and test them. This leads to an increase in jobs.

In conclusion, advertisements can lead us to believe we need to buy whatever is trending right then and there. Due to bad advertisement, the public can be manipulated and their perceptions about products or services offered by a given organization. Additionally, children can be affected by mature content in the advertisement, as they are exposed to it while their parents allow it because they believe it is becoming normal. However, advertisement has positive impacts on the public as well. Advertisements can also be used in a positive way, such as in mass advertising to inform and to bring awareness during a crisis. We must understand that not all advertisements are being presented with good intentions. In the end, we the general public are responsible for filtering what is being presented to us.
