The Russian Civil War and the Bolsheviks

The Russian civil war which occurred within 7th November 1917 to 16th June 1923 was a multiparty civil war which was sparked by the monarchical overthrowing and the failure of maintaining stability by the new republican government (Engelstein, L. 2020). This civil war was the result of the formation of RSFSR which was later transformed to the Soviet Union all over its territory. The grand finale of this war was the end of Russian Revolution one of the 20th century key event.  The civil war arose as a result of opposition emergence against the Bolsheviks. The opposition groups included the militarists, foreign nations and monarchists. According to Swain, G. 2008, at the end of 1917, the Bolsheviks were only in control of Petrograd, Moscow together with the territories between both cities.

The combinations largest known in the civil war were the Red Army who were fighting for the Bolshevik which was led by Vladimir Lenin and the White Army which was the loosely allied force. After the war, the Russian empire was broken and this led to emergence of many pro-independence movements. These movements also fought in the war. This led to establishment of several parts of Russian empire as sovereign states, these included Poland, Latvia, Estonia and Finland. The rest of Russian empire was afterwards consolidated into Soviet Union (МакНамара, К. Д. 2020).
