Rhetoric

After watching the video “In Defense of Rhetoric” I noted that rhetoric is the technique of using language effectively. It is the day-to-use of language to express ourselves and persuade others. It helps us to be more conscious of our language and enhances our communication and presentation skills. Rhetoric helps us to know who our audience is and how to address them in order to achieve the result that we desire. I think that the use of rhetoric in our daily communication is essential in the job market. It happens in our daily life as it is used in communication when we want someone to believe, understand or agree with us be it in public speaking, in a small group, or when addressing our friends. In regards to the video, I believe rhetoric can greatly improve our oratory skills as well as help us become better writers as well as thinkers. Being well conversant with the rhetoric packages which includes the massage we need to pass, knowledge about the audience and situation as well as the goal and rhetoric strategy are crucial in becoming a better speaker and writer.

I think that the mastery of the rhetorical approaches which include persuasion, invitation, argumentation, and storytelling greatly adds to our daily communication skills and play a major role in our abilities to communicate effectively. According to Dr.  Ann George in the video, the mastery of language and knowing how to use language is very important to university students and a powerful tool in communication. I am in agreement with how powerful language is and can be used as a revolutionary weapon. Language creates thoughts and no one is able to think without language. The use of language that is clear, accessible, interesting, provocative as well as respectful can greatly help in enhancing our communication and help us become better speakers and writers.
