Mr. Bo Diddley was born Ellas Otha Bates initially on December 28, 1928, in McComb, Mississippi; however, he changed his surname as a kid to Ellas McDaniel. Bo was a vocalist and guitarist who specialized in R&B and Chicago Blues. He became dubbed "The Originator" since the pivotal part in the shift from blues to Rock & Roll, and he affected a lot of entertainers. On October 20, 1955, Bo Diddley appeared on the iconic Ed Sullivan Television show (Marks, p.19). He was meant to perform "Sixteen Tons" but instead sang "Bo Diddley." Ed Sullivan was upset and refused to have Bo Diddley on his show (Marks, p.21).
