George Washington was inaugurated into office on April 30, 1789, becoming the first U.S president, and John Adams was the vice president. Three departments had been created under the Article of confederation which included the ministry of foreign affairs, the finance office, and the department of war. Washington chose a cabinet to help him in his term of presidency.
